Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation

I. Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation will lead on all strategic and operational aspects of the University clinical skills and simulation provision, ensuring a consistently excellent standard of teaching and support for student learning and playing a leading role in curriculum development, quality assurance and enhancement of the clinical skills and simulation portfolio. The Director will work in partnership with full-time staff, casual lecturers and students in the Faculties of Medicine and of Nursing & Midwifery to maintain high standards in all areas of work related to clinical skills and simulation.

The Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation must have a passion for education and a deep understanding of clinical skills development. With the rapid growth of digital learning technologies that offer immersive experiences such as virtual, augmented or mixed reality technologies, the Director will be expected to start to plan for, and progressively apply these technologies.

The role holder will have strategic responsibilities for the development of clinical skills and simulation in the University for undergraduate medical and nursing courses to ensure that students are fit for purpose on graduation.

II. Duties and Responsibilities:
The overall job description below outlines the main areas of responsibilities of the Employee:

  • Learner assessment, feedback, and evaluation
  • Scenario design and delivery, including incorporation of technical and non-technical knowledge and skills into scenario development
  • Simulation facilitation and debriefing
  • Use of audiovisual recording and other technologies to enhance simulation-based research and educational programs
  • Training and evaluation of instructors in simulation
  • Simulation course intake and evaluation processes
  • Simulation Center administration
  • Promotion of simulation within the University
  • In due course, Simulation Center international accreditation process

III. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
1.Experience:

  • Experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably within a surgical environment
  • Extensive Clinical simulation experience

2. Education:

  • Education to Master or PhD level in healthcare related field
  • Professional registration with healthcare related professional body in home country

3. Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Evidence of ability to both influence and negotiate change
  • Evidence of team working in approach to problem solving
